New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday said it would hear a plea challenging the clock repairs of the Prime Minister of India and other top officials on grounds of violations of the Constitution, but that a bench headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur will defer to the Government to decide.
The Bench, headed by Justice TS A Kaul, asked the Prime Minster and officials of the central government to furnish evidence of how they were affected by the clock maintenance and repair measures that the court had referred to it.
The bench also directed the government to explain why it was seeking permission from the apex court for the clock changes, which were taken on June 5 after a week of protests over the death of a student in an allegedly fatal traffic accident in Delhi.
The court had on April 28 directed the Central Board of Direct Taxes to probe the death and death of an 18-year-old student who died in an alleged auto accident in the city on June 3.
